1960s modern stained glass panels arrived last week in need of repair. They were taken out of their original location, not sure where… hooks were added to the lead border and that is where the trouble begins. When you add hooks to the lead border, the weight of large panels will stretch even faster. Traditional stained glass panels are made with 100% lead channel and in less than a few years time these borders stretched creating stress on the glass and borders.
The cure? Re-leading the border, replacing the broken glass sections and adding a wooden frame so this patron can re hang them on chains. We used mahogany wood for the frames and now these panels are good to go for another 100 years and are more beautiful than ever before.
