Uroboros Glass Co. Drapery Glass

This beauty sold today. Being in the “glass business” for over 40 years (where does the time go?), I have seen and worked with a lot of beautiful glass. This particular glass sheet was made by Uroboros Glass Co. Unfortunately, they closed their factory and all their recipes now belong to Oceania Glass Co., of which is still an American-made colored glass company. So many amazing glass factories are closed today for one reason or another and/or are producing sheet glass in Mexico and China.

Drapery glass in wood frame

This particular sheet is called drapery glass and used to make the clothes for saints and other spiritual figures you sometimes see in churches. The sanctuary at Centenary United Methodist Church on the 500 block of Middle St. in New Bern is an excellent example of how this glass was used.

This particular sheet of drapery glass has been in my collection for over 30 years. No one is making more today. The frame design is my design and my most wonderful husband brings my designs to life. We honor old glass that is no longer made nor available on the market today. This masterpiece will be part of a larger private art collection.
